You
are here: How to do Walt
Disney World®> Seasons
Seasons
The
time of year will affect the price that you will pay for the
accommodation. It will also make a difference to the lengths of the
line-ups!
Check
the date ranges below to get an idea of the most and least popular times
to visit Walt Disney World®
Resort.
For
the most popular times (these are Christmas/New Year and for Canadians, March Break) you need to think about booking several months in advance
if you want the best choice and price.
Starting
in 2008 and evolving every year since, Disney changed its room
rate system to a significantly more complicated one. While there are still defined "seasons" during the year, within each season
there are many exceptions:
-
For all seasons, Fridays and
Saturdays are more expensive than weeknights - though this is
largely irrelevant, if you are staying for a week anyway...
-
Most seasons include at least one
holiday period in which room rates are higher than the regular rates
for that season. i.e US Thanksgiving during what would otherwise be
regular season...
-
There are now so many variations
(for example there are 13 sets of dates that are "value"
season, 9 sets of dates that are "fall season", 2 sets of
dates that are "regular season", as well as
"Holiday", "Thanksgiving", "Columbus
Day", "Marathon", "Presidents Weekend"
seasons, some of which differ depending on the resort), that it is
no longer practical to give all season dates here. On Disney's own
website, the seasons for 2011/2012 take up more than 30 web pages,
per resort!!
-
The best I can do is say that
seasons matter, and choosing your dates (while being more
complicated than ever) is still one of the best ways to affect how
much you'll pay for your vacation.
-
My very approximate summary
is below.
|
Value season:
Approx early-Jan to mid-Feb
Approx mid-Aug to early-Oct
Approx end Nov to mid-Dec
|
Regular season:
Approx mid-Apr to end-May
Approx early-Oct to end-Nov
|
Summer
season:
Approx end-May to mid-Aug |
Peak Season:
Approx mid-Feb to early-Apr
|
Holiday Season:
Approx mid-Dec
to early-Jan
|
The prices for accommodation reflect these seasons, though the cost of any passes is
essentially the same
all year round. Disney prices fluctuate a little by season, most
significantly during Holiday season. |
|
|
According
to Disney staff, the
least busy times of
year as far as line-ups
go are (approx):
-
January
01 -
February
11
-
August
29 -
September
29
-
October
31 -
December
19
So
if you are
flexible
with the
days that
you can
take off
work, and
you want
to squeeze
in the
most
attractions
possible,
you should
bear these
dates in
mind...
