Punta Cana | Bayahibe

Article written by Alex Robinson

Bayahibe is a relatively new resort, situated half way between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. Until now that has meant an hour and a half bus journey from either of these airports. The brand new La Romana airport, a mere 20 minutes from Bayahibe's beaches has changed all that.

This is great news, as the beaches in Bayahibe share much of the great beauty and tropical feel of Punta Cana. This is a good thing. White sand and palm trees are greatly in evidence here. The resorts, while still needing a little more landscaping in some cases, are fully featured, and have already developed their own loyal clientele.

Depending on the resort, there is something for everyone here. If you want an emphasis on sports activities, it's here. If you want to sit in the shade, relax and read a good book, you can. If you want to dance merengue all day and at the disco all night, go for it!

You are even close enough to the capital city of Santo Domingo for day trips to explore the colonial past of the Caribbean's first established city.

This is still a relatively undiscovered part of the Dominican Republic. It may not stay that way for long!
