Details of Our Journey

We sailed from Nassau at 6pm on May 11 and spent the next day at sea.

Passengers were offered the opportunity to enjoy lectures on Mayan History, Caribbean Music Climate and its effects on flora and fauna.  Art classes, yoga and musical entertainment were all available at different times during the day and evening. We spent the day getting accustomed to what was to be our  "home" for the next 14 days, meeting  crew members and fellow passengers and attending a couple of  lectures .

On Tuesday, May 13 we docked in Cozumel where you can scuba, snorkel, shop, visit Mayan  ruins, swim with dolphins, or even climb an Iceberg in your bathing suit.

That's Ann Marie, not me , perched on top of that iceberg.

A large number of passengers had pre-booked land trips that involved being ferried to Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan mainland. We had arranged to visit privately owned villas that are available for rental on a weekly basis. As this was our first visit to Cozumel we decided to spend the remainder of the day exploring what Cozumel had to offer our family travel clientele. We were very happy that we did so.

Once docked we easily made arrangements with a taxi driver to take us to the Villas. The driver waited while we made our inspection of two beautiful villas and then he took us on a three hour island tour. Our driver  pointed out places of interest including historical spots, beaches, hotels, services etc.  By choice we ended our taxi tour at a great beach, named Paradise Beach, where the facilities for swimming, shopping and dining were definitely first class.

We were truly impressed with our day on Cozumel. Having watched the Mayan Riviera change over the past 18 years from sleepy little fishing villages into a series of very large resorts, stretching south  for miles down the coast from Cancun airport, the distinctly more relaxed atmosphere of Cozumel is very appealing indeed.

Our suggestion for a wonderful family holiday – rent a villa or apartment, rent a car, spend your days enjoying all that Cozumel has to offer.

If you run out of things to do, you can take a ferry to Playa del Carmen and travel to Mayan ruins in Tulum, Coba, or Chichen Itza. Visit Xel-HaLagoon for an unforgettable and fun day of snorkeling.

Return to the peace and quiet of your villa home in Cozumel at the end of the day.

On Wednesday, May 14 – we arrived off the coast of  Belize, or as the the souvenir shops say,  UNBelizable.

Belize offers a large number of soft adventure tours that range from tubing through underground caves to aerial trekking to Barrier Reef Snorkeling. The Barrier Reef in Belize is the second largest in the world, just behind the Great Barrier Reef of Australia.

Belize does not have a cruise ship terminal. Our ship was anchored 5 miles off the coast near Belize City. We traveled by tender from the ship to the Ferry
terminal. Our cruise companions went their various ways.

We had a prearranged treat awaiting us – a visit to the unbelievably beautiful Caye Chapel Resort.  We were met by our chauffer and taken to Belize city airport..

We then hopped aboard a 5-seater plane operated by Maya Island Air and enjoyed a 10 minute flight to the privately owned Caye Chapel Island Resort…… 265 acres of Caribbean Paradise

We landed on an amazingly well maintained private landing strip and were met by Charles, a resort representative who was our guide and host for the hours we spent there. Charles handed us keys to a golf cart, ours for the day, with a cheery “Follow Me”, we were off to tour this fantastic resort and its beautiful golf course.

I cannot say enough in praise of this resort and what it has to offer by way of spectacular accommodation, privacy, relaxation and sport facilities - golf in particular. Neither our photos nor their web site, www.cayechapel.com, do justice in describing the sense of serenity one feels on this Caye.

The word Paradise is often used to describe many locations on our planet… in my opinion this word should be reserved for Caye Chapel.

Hopefully our photos will portray a bit of what is there for you to experience. I can think of no greater pleasure than helping our family travel clients experience this wonderful holiday opportunity. Please contact us for details.  Don't miss out on this one.
