Ages of Infants/Children and Airfares
Children under two fly free for most sun destinations, but pay 10% of adult fare on most overseas flights. They may be required to pay taxes and/or visas for other destinations... ask at time of booking to avoid surprises.

• Many airlines insist that to fly free the child must be under two at the time of the return flight, so think twice if you are planning a family holiday to mark a second birthday. 

• An infant is not entitled to a seat and only one infant per adult is allowed to fly free. 

• On long journeys it is often worth it to purchase a seat for your child even if the child is eligible to fly free. 

• Don't assume you'll find empty seats to take advantage of on every flight.

• An accompanied child of 12 years or older pays adult fares. 

Unaccompanied minors 
Unaccompanied minors always fly at adult rates and most airlines charge additional "handling" fees which can very considerably depending on the airline. Unaccompanied minor rules differ with airlines and routings and schedules. You will always need to give full contact details of the child and the adults that will be dropping them off and picking them up. Be sure to have all the information you need in advance if a child is flying as an unaccompanied minor.
