Family Cycling in England’s Cotswolds

A leisurely cycle tour specially designed for families to explore the beautiful Cotswold region together. Starting at the Regency spa town of Cheltenham, approximately 2 hours by rail from London and finishing at Stratford Upon Avon. The average daily distances of 12 – 15 miles make maximum use of the area’s peaceful country lanes and network of cycle paths. This route takes in a wide range of interests including wildlife and nature reserves, historic sites dating back to Roman times, some of England’s most famous gardens, and the many literary associations connected to William Shakespeare. Accommodation is in small family run hotels offering a warm welcome to families. Rooms include en-suite bathroom. In the unlikely event that private bath is not available you will be notified of this prior to confirmation. This tour can be taken in reverse order and additional nights can be arranged.

Itinerary 
7 Nights / 8 Days / 5 Days cycling

Day 1 
Arrive in Cheltenham, Britain’s most complete Regency Spa town with many elegant buildings, beautiful parks and gardens and fascinating museums. You can enjoy its renowned range of shopping or simply relax. Overnight in Cheltenham

Day 2 
Cheltenham to Winchcombe via Sudeley Castle with its beautiful gardens and private chapel with its effigy tomb of Catherine Parr - Henry VIII’s sixth wife who survived him and lived here at Sudeley. Another visit might be the nearby Railway Museum. 12 miles. Overnight in Winchcombe

Day 3 
Circuit via Stanway Manor a jewel of Cotswold manor houses still lived in today. A steam train trip could be made on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway(GWR) from Winchecombe to Toddington (return) and a visit could be made to medieval Hailes Abbey built in 1242. 10-15 miles Overnight Winchcombe

Day 4 
Winchcombe to Chipping Campden via Snowshill Manor – a restored 17th century manor house containing an eccentric collection of objects from Samurai armour to old bicycles! At Broadway Tower enjoy panoramic views before continuing on to Chipping Campden where you can see some of the best Cotswold architecture with handsome houses and a fine church that display the wealth of the medieval wool merchants. 15 miles. Overnight Chipping Campden

Day 5 
Circuit via Moreton in Marsh if its Tuesday join the crowds shopping at the traditional street market. From here you cycle to Batsford where you can visit the beautiful Arboretum or enjoy a display of falconry before continuing to the timeless village of Blockley, one of the jewels of the Cotswolds. The little stream that runs through it once supported a dozen mills that were used for all manner of industry from flour milling to silk weaving. Cycling along country roads through timeless villages with fields of sheep bordered by wild rose hedges and wildflowers. 12-16 miles. Overnight Chipping Campden

Day 6 
Chipping Campden to Stratford via Hidcote Manor Garden famous for its “garden rooms walled in by yew and box hedges" or Kiftsgate Court Garden with its collection of old roses and the Greenway. Your evenings in Stratford are free to attend theatre performances if you wish. 14 miles. Overnight Stratford Upon Avon

Day 7 
Day on your own in Stratford Upon Avon. Your day could include exploring the sites associated with William Shakespeare followed by an excursion to nearby Warwick, England’s most complete historic town with its finest medieval Castle. After exploring the castle’s mighty towers, chilling dungeons and elegant state rooms you could tour some of the town’s many other glorious buildings including a chantry chapel, medieval hospital, Queen Anne church and Jacobean house with fascinating museums covering subjects from archeology through folk life to military history. Overnight Stratford Upon Avon

Day 8 
Depart 

Bicycles: 
Quality hybrid bikes featuring indexed gears, changers on handle bars, bar bag with map case, water bottle with carrier, full mudguards, anatomic gel saddles, optional toe clips. Helmets if required. We can offer a wide range of vehicles from trailers for children age 18 months to 5 years, trailer bikes which attach to the adult bike for children age 4 and up or individual children’s bikes from approximately age 7 years depending upon height.

Helmets: 
Bicycle helmets must be worn by all participants. We can provide helmets for adults at no additional charge. Children must bring their own helmets.

Additional days: 
Additional days with or without bikes can be arranged or inserted within the itinerary.

Lunches and Dinners: 
Have been left to the family’s discretion. Information on local pubs, inns, tea rooms etc will be included in your tour pack. Packed lunches can usually be arranged at the hotels if requested the evening prior. Many families prefer to shop at a local grocery store for picnic lunch foods to eat en route. If packed or picnic lunches would suit your family it would be a good idea to bring along a lightweight food cooler bag.

Terms and Conditions

PRICES: All prices are in Canadian dollars unless otherwise indicated. These prices are effective at the time of making this quote or printing this brochure although they are subject to change without notice. Per person in Canadian dollars - Land Only. Subject to availability, rates and rate of exchange at time of booking deposit and final payment.

TOURS INCLUDE: Accommodations, meals, entrances, transfers and activities, service, VAT. tax as indicated in each itinerary.

NOT INCLUDED: Airfare including departure taxes. Insurance. Gratuities.

RESERVATIONS: Reservations must be accompanied by a deposit or payment in full before the reservations can be considered as confirmed. Unless otherwise indicated in these Terms and Conditions, all amounts are per person. 

PAYMENT: Payment may be made by agency cheque, payable to Bonaventure Tours, or VISA or Mastercard 

DEPOSIT: A deposit of 25% of the package total is required at confirmation of your booking. 

FINAL PAYMENT: is due in our office 56 days prior to commencement. Failure to pay on time will result in cancellation of the holiday. For bookings confirmed within 56 days of departure full payment is required immediately.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND: If it is necessary to cancel before departure immediately notify Bonaventure Tours. We require notice in writing, faxed to 604 990 7394. Date of cancellation is determined by date of receipt of this fax. No refunds or adjustments will be made for portions of the trip or attendant services not used.

CHANGES: One change is allowed per booking. Subsequent changes will be charged at $60.00 per change 

FORCE MAJEURE : Bonaventure Tours acts only as agent for Carriers, Transportation Companies, hotels and all other contractors and therefore disclaims responsibility for any loss, damage, accidents, change of schedule, or other irregularities caused or arising from circumstances beyond their control. Bonaventure Tours reserves the right to change the itinerary with or without notice or to cancel a tour at any time in which case Bonaventure Tours shall have no responsibility beyond the refund of all monies paid for the tour by participants and we shall not be liable for any claims, demands losses and damages of any nature or kind whatsoever you may have by reason of our modification to, or cancellation of travel service. Any or all transportation companies involved in the tour shall have or incur no responsibility for liability to any traveller aside from their liability as common carriers.

DOCUMENTATION: Canadian citizens must present a valid passport for entry into the UK It is the responsibility of the traveler to insure he has the correct and complete documentation. No refunds will be made for services not used due to refusal of entry to the UK due to inadequate or improper documentation.

INSURANCE: It is a mandatory condition that each person booking an active holiday through Bonaventure Tours be fully insured for out of country emergency medical, travel accident from departure until return home. Bonaventure Tours will require proof of coverage at time of booking. Each participant must sign and return our release waiver verifying that they have out of country emergency medical coverage.

SINGLE ROOM SUPPLEMENTS: Single room occupancy may be available at an extra charge available on request. As we use small guesthouses for our programme we try to accommodate everyone in one locations, so it may not always be possible to get single rooms.

THE ITINERARY: We will follow the itineraries as outlined, but reserve the right to change any day’s activities due to weather conditions or any other unforeseen circumstances.

SAFETY: Special Conditions for Cycling programmes: For cycling holidays it is a condition of booking that the heights of the clients are provided in order to insure availability of bicycles. It is STRONGLY advised that all participants wear helmets which are provided free of charge. In the interest of safety during activity programmes including walking and cycling participants must agree to abide by the decisions of your guide. Participants should advise Bonaventure Tours and the leader if they have any medical condition or are taking any medication that might affect their participation. Your booking is accepted on the understanding that you realize the hazards involved in a cycling holiday. Whilst taking every care we cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage or injury incurred during a holiday.
